Hello, my name is Lynn Turnquist. I’m the interim chair for the department of Mathematics here at Utah Valley State College. I’ve been here 13 years. Its my 26th year of teaching of which I spent 11 years as a public school teacher in Montana and two as a college teacher there. My graduate degree is in Mathematics from the University of Montana. I also have a Bachelor’s in Math from that institution.
Here at Utah Valley State College we offer two bachelors degrees; a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics Education. We also offer a minor in Mathematics, for those people who would like to do that. We offer two associates degrees in Mathematics also.
Here at Utah Valley State College I am very proud of our faculty. They come from wide varied backgrounds and they are very excellent. We have many PhDs and Master’s degreed people involved in our department, and they are all excellent teachers. We pride ourselves in the fact of our small classes and you get personal attention. That’s a big selling point not only for our math major but also somebody that is going to take Math to fulfill their general education requirements for other degrees.
So, I think we have very good faculty and a very good program here and we’d be honored if you would come here. The thing is, you get personal attention here. We have good instructors and you have help available not only from teacher but also from the math labs. So, we welcome you to come here and we hope we can help you in your math endeavor.

Graduates from the Mathematics Department will have a strong foundation in mathematics that will support them in many disciplines. The Department of Mathematics offers a wide range of courses to students planning to complete an AS or BS degree in mathematics or the sciences.
